Timber Harvest

Below is a list of resources that may help you with your plan. Please be sure to read over them carefully. Please be advised that if we have to return your plan for revisions there is a $200 additional charge each time it needs to be returned to you. If you do not know how to write a Timber Harvest plan it is strongly suggested that you hire someone to help you. There are specific things that the law says must be included in a Timber Harvest plan. There are no exceptions.

You will need to include the proper maps with your plan. Information about how to do this can be found in the “Plan Writing Resources“. Things that are required on the maps include: a map of the property, contour lines, soil types, neighboring properties, stream lines, non-blue-line streams, wetlands, and possibly other things depending upon your plan. These will need to be completed with mapping software. Pencil drawings will NOT be accepted. 

You are permitted to draw in your haul roads on your map, but they need to be precise. That means you need to know were old haul roads on the property lie exactly, and where you plan to put new haul roads. 

Please be aware that there are no longer any employees in our office that can help you make your maps or complete your plan. If you submit an incomplete plan or substandard maps expecting employees to do the work for you, it will be returned to you to complete, along with a charge for $200 re-review.

Also, please be aware that if you do a Timber Harvest without a permit the Garrett County Permits and Inspections Division will fine you, both for harvesting without a permit and for a Stop Work Order, which would be issued on the harvest. If you continue to harvest, there would be another fine. Fines double with each subsequent offense, which applies to the contractor, not the particular property. These fines can total thousands of dollars. What’s more, the Maryland Department of the Environment would attach their own set of fines. Don’t harvest without a permit. It isn’t worth it.
